I was commissioned to do some family holiday photos and it was a great experience. It was the largest family gathering I've ever had, so of course, the challenge of getting everyone in focus and tuned into what I was trying to do was a necessity.
I used my normal arsenal of 2 47" octaboxes and my B800 alienbees by Paul Buff, but in addition to it, I wanted to leave a nice hair highlight on all the kids in the photos because of their blond hair. Everything was triggered by the flex tt5s plus ac3 by pocket wizard.
So as you can see, there's the two catchlights, but the nicely shaped hair light. I used my SB-700 speed light with a snoot to concentrate the light unto the hair and not spill everywhere.
I shot with a Sigma 70-200 2.8 to give good compression with all my shots. I also used the 24-70 2.8 for my medium to wide angle shots and because the 24-70 is my favorite reliable lens.
